Amazon has shown the first teaser for the Christmas comedy The Man with the Bag, in which Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Santa Claus. For the actor it is a return to Christmas cinema thirty years after Jingle All the Way. The worldwide premiere on Prime Video is set for December 2, 2026.
Plot
In the story, Santa's red sack is stolen by a resentful elf, played by Awkwafina. The holiday is left under threat, and with little time remaining before the biggest night of the year, Santa turns for help to a thief from his "naughty list." That character went to Alan Ritchson, known for the series "Reacher."
Ritchson's character quickly puts together a team of criminally gifted oddballs, and the elves and reindeer agree to lend a hand. Together they pull off the most unexpected heist of their lives. The filmmakers describe the film as a story about a second chance, unexpected friendship, and the fact that even Santa sometimes needs help.
Who's Making the Film
The film is directed by Adam Shankman, known among other things for the musical Hairspray, and the screenplay was written by Allan Rice.
Alongside Schwarzenegger and Ritchson, the film stars Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Jane Krakowski, Liza Koshy, Kyle Mooney, Michael Cyril Creighton and Berkeley James.
The Man with the Bag is billed as a holiday heist comedy, and it arrives in time for the Christmas season. The film can be watched on Prime Video, which is included with an Amazon Prime subscription. Subscription terms vary by region, and in the US there is a 50 percent discount for young users and recipients of government assistance.
