Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: four colors, A20 Pro chip, and new AI camera

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones. According to the manufacturer, the new devices feature the most advanced camera system in an iPhone, a significant increase in battery life, and a new generation processor. The devices will be available in four colors: black, silver, glacier, and a new burgundy.

The main hardware innovation was the A20 Pro processor, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process. According to Apple, the chip has 50% more memory bandwidth than the A19 Pro, and the new 7-core GPU is up to 40% faster. The dual 16-core Neural Engine provides twice the performance in artificial intelligence tasks. Efficient heat dissipation is provided by a next-generation vapor chamber.

The camera system received a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with variable aperture — for the first time in iPhone. Six laser-cut blades allow smooth aperture adjustment to control depth of field and lighting. Improved low-light shooting, clearer details in group shots and manual control of settings in the Camera app are claimed. Also added are new computational photography algorithms, expanded styles and the ability to apply cinematic effects to video up to 60 frames per second.

Both models run iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence features and the Siri AI voice assistant, which will be released in beta. Siri AI is positioned as a more personal and contextual assistant capable of understanding on-screen content and performing actions via text queries. Apple emphasizes that data processing occurs on-device or via Private Cloud Compute to protect privacy.

The Dynamic Island has been reduced and can now display up to three Live Activities simultaneously. Apple also introduced the Apple Reference Image feature for verifying photo authenticity: in a special mode, the camera signs every pixel with sensor data, making it possible to distinguish an original from an edited image.

Claimed battery life has increased: for eSIM-only models, the iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours of video playback, and the Pro Max up to 45 hours. Fast wired charging charges the Pro to 50% in about 15 minutes. According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro Max has the largest battery life increase in iPhone history.

Pre-orders for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will begin on Saturday, September 12, and sales will start on September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1199, iPhone 18 Pro Max from $1299. Buyers will be offered new accessories, including silicone and fabric cases, straps, and wallets, as well as trade-in and leasing programs.

Apple emphasizes the eco-friendliness of the new products: the bodies contain 85% recycled aluminum, the batteries — 100% recycled cobalt, and overall 40% recycled materials are used in the devices. Production is partially powered by renewable energy.

Performance, battery life, and camera capability claims are based on Apple’s internal tests and preliminary data. Actual results may vary depending on usage conditions and region.
