Blizzard announced Diablo V: fallen Sanctuary and a ‘new era’

Blizzard Entertainment officially announced Diablo V. The announcement came at the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, where the first teaser trailer was shown. The game’s release is scheduled for spring 2029.

According to the developers, the fifth installment will take place in Sanctuary, which has fallen. Heroes have disappeared, and Diablo has triumphed. The creators describe the game as a ‘new era’ for the series and ask: ‘Who must you become when the world has already fallen?’

The teaser shows a post-apocalyptic game world, but plot and gameplay details have not yet been revealed. Blizzard promises to share more at the ‘Diablo V: Forging the Next Era’ panel on September 13 at 1:45 PM Pacific Time as part of BlizzCon.

This is the first time Blizzard has announced the next Diablo installment before the current one’s lifecycle ends. Diablo IV was released in 2023 and continues to receive seasonal updates. The company did not specify how long the fourth part will be supported after the fifth launches.

The announcement of Diablo V emphasizes that the series remains key for Blizzard, despite competition in the action RPG genre. For fans, this is a signal that the history of Sanctuary will receive a dark continuation, where the familiar struggle against evil may turn into survival in an already lost war.
