Meta unveils VR glasses weighing about 100 grams

Meta has unveiled the Meta VR Glasses — VR glasses weighing about 100 grams. The company calls them its most advanced device yet: by its own account, the new product is five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3 and can be worn for hours. In form they are ordinary glasses rather than a conventional VR headset.
The key decision is a two-part design. The sensors and display stay in the glasses themselves, while the computing, battery and memory are moved into a separate "puck" block: it connects to the glasses with an optical cable and clips to a pocket or bag. There are no straps or heavy hardware on the face, and the open sides and passthrough camera preserve awareness of what is going on around you.
The screen is a 5K Infinite Display on micro-OLED with a density of 37 pixels per degree, which matters for text legibility. Dolby Vision is supported, and Dolby Atmos spatial audio is built directly into the frame. The device runs on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite processor.
Control is controller-free: by voice, gaze and hand gestures through the built-in Meta AI agent. The puck's battery promises up to three hours of continuous high-resolution video and 45 W fast charging.
It is the first VR device with IMAX Enhanced certification and one of the few ways to watch select films in the expanded IMAX format at home. At launch, more than 75 gesture-controlled games are promised along with Xbox Cloud Gaming support, plus holographic calls: the person you are talking to appears in three dimensions with spatial audio, and this works in WhatsApp, Zoom and other apps.
Sales begin in spring 2027, priced at $1,299.99.
