Anthropic cuts share of junior technical staff
XORit Editorial · Sources, AI assistance and corrections

On October 16, 2026, Anthropic published a study on how AI is changing work and hiring within the company. According to the report, the share of junior employees in technical departments fell from 21% to 14% since early 2025.
The change is more pronounced among new hires: the share hired for entry-level technical roles dropped from 27% to 9%. The authors link this shift to teams that use Claude extensively increasingly delegating code writing and bug finding to it.
Technical hiring continued in absolute numbers. But over the past year, the share of the company’s workforce in technical departments fell from 61% to 56%, as sales, finance and recruiting grew faster.
The study is based on Anthropic’s internal data on employment, AI use and work performance, as well as interviews with 17 employees. The authors stress that it describes one fast-growing AI company, not the entire labor market.
