Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) developed the OpenVMS operating system for the VAX family of computers. It was introduced in 1977 and, according to an article on Habr, is still used in fault-tolerant systems.
In spring 2023, enthusiasts were given access to OpenVMS 9.2 for the x86-64 architecture. The system image can be run as a virtual machine in VirtualBox, KVM, and VMware. Approval of an application is required to obtain the images.
