Microsoft’s MAI-DxO AI system correctly diagnosed complex medical cases 83% of the time in a simulation. The study was published in the journal Science on October 22, 2026.
MAI-DxO coordinates several AI agents: they ask the patient questions, order tests, and discuss the diagnosis. The simulation used complex cases from the New England Journal of Medicine. General practitioners and internists working individually with reference materials correctly diagnosed 36% of the cases.
The comparison did not include specialists or medical teams who usually review such complex cases. The result was obtained in a simulation; the system still needs to be evaluated in clinical settings.
