OpenAI reports three scientific results from its AI models

On Monday, October 26, OpenAI reported three results from its AI models in harmonic analysis, computational complexity theory and quantum field theory. The company said the models proved the local smoothing conjecture for all spatial dimensions. Previously, it had only been possible to prove it for three dimensions.
OpenAI also said that the models disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis, which concerns the time required to solve complex computational problems. MIT expert Ryan Williams told Al Jazeera that they are reviewing the proof to determine whether it stands up to scrutiny.
The third result, according to OpenAI, is a rigorous mathematical proof concerning quantum chromodynamics, which studies the interaction of quarks and gluons. The company said that the groups working on the mathematics and computer science problems decided to make the AI-generated data available immediately. The physics group postponed publication to prepare its own interpretation of the results.
