iOS 27 releases today: what’s new in Siri and the system
Today, September 14, Apple releases iOS 27, a major update for iPhone. The main innovation is a redesigned Siri: it has become more conversational, understands personal context, can act inside apps and “see” what is happening on the screen. New Siri AI capabilities are available on all iPhone 16 models and newer, as well as on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
In addition to the updated assistant, iOS 27 includes Apple Intelligence for various applications. In Photos, spatial reframing and smart image expansion have appeared, and Safari has learned to sort tabs by topic and check pages for updates. Image Playground, Calendar, Mail, Phone, and accessibility features have been updated.
For parents, iOS 27 adds improved setup for children’s accounts, a ‘Ask to Visit’ feature for approving websites, expanded communication protection, and time limits by app category – ‘Entertainment’, ‘Games’, ‘Social Media’. The Screen Time section has also been redesigned.
System improvements include refinement of the Liquid Glass effect with a new transparency setting, faster app launches and AirDrop transfers, improved search in Spotlight, Photos and Mail, as well as smoother transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. In Health, you can now track perimenopause and menopause.
Apple notes that some features may not be available in all regions or on all iPhone models, and usage limits may apply to some Apple Intelligence features. The update may affect performance and battery life — details are published on Apple’s support page.
